For the past two years, TrueNorth has included a new element to the Empty Bowls luncheons with their “Stuff the Carts” initiative, and it’s back again this year. With a goal of filling six grocery carts with food for the TrueNorth Food Pantry this year, attendees will have the opportunity to "shop" while enjoying their soup, and help those in need in a more hands-on, direct manner. Flats of non-perishable, food staples will available for purchase, grocery carts will at the ready, and the pantry will be waiting to have its shelves filled. If there was ever a time to reach out and help your neighbors - it is now.
TrueNorth is also pleased to announce their lead sponsors for the events this year in Huntington Bank, and Parvox Technology. Both these fine businesses have long histories of supporting TrueNorth Community Services and their efforts to assist the less fortunate in our communities. TrueNorth is thrilled to have them as their lead sponsors of the 2013 Empty Bowls event.
“Having sponsors at an event like Empty Bowls is huge for us, because it is a fundraising event so having most of the costs underwritten in this way always for a much higher percent of the proceeds from it to go directly to helping the less fortunate among us,” said TrueNorth Development and Communications Senior Officer, Darci David. “Both Parvox Technology and Huntington Bank have been such amazing supporters of our agency, and we and Newaygo County are really blessed to have such great community partners. Their continued support, not only financially but also voluntarily, has really made a huge difference in our ability to serve those in need,” she continued.
There are two dates and locations for the Empty Bowls luncheons this year, and you can be a part of alleviating hunger in Newaygo County by attending the event, or by hosting a table of eight for you and your friends, family or co-workers on Thursday, October 3 at the TrueNorth Service Center – 6308 S. Warner Ave., Fremont; or Friday, October 4 at the Newaygo County Commission on Aging - 93 S. Gibbs St., White Cloud. The luncheons run from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM each day.
Local middle school and high school art students, as well as Camp Newaygo campers have made and/or decorated bowls, and each guest will be allowed to choose a bowl as theirs to keep, reminding them that there are always “empty bowls” somewhere in Newaygo County. In addition to their bowl, each guest will receive a simple lunch including a homemade soup buffet, bread, dessert and beverage. Soups are donated by area restaurants and attendees may partake of as many varieties as they would like. Tickets are $20.00 each or a table of eight for $150.00 and are available now at TrueNorth. You may also order over the phone by calling Darci David at TrueNorth, 924-0641, ext. 111, or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets may be purchased using cash, credit cards or check with checks made payable to “TrueNorth”, with “Empty Bowls” on the memo line. Tickets will also be available at the door.
