TrueNorth Community Services’ Food Programs and Meijer are partnering for the holiday season to give local families much-needed food insecurity relief through Simply Give, the retailer’s customer-driven donation program supporting food pantries.
“We’re focused on making a meaningful difference and ensuring that everyone in our community can put food on their table,” said Jennifer Zimmerman, the Community Food Coordinator at TrueNorth Community Services. “Meijer’s Simply Give program enables us to do that even more.”
Meijer Simply Give helps stock more than 245 food pantries’ shelves in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The campaign asks customers to buy $10 Simply Give donation cards, which are converted into food-only Meijer gift cards given to local food programs and pantries like TrueNorth’s.
TrueNorth benefits from Simply Give donation cards purchased at the Fremont Meijer store, which is located at 4665 South Green Avenue in Fremont, from November 10 through January 4, 2020.
“The Meijer Simply Give program allows us to make sure our most vulnerable neighbors have the food resources they need for a more healthy, nutritious diet,” said Mark Kraus, Community Liaison and Development Director for TrueNorth.
Meijer is contributing at least $1 million to the 2019 Simply Give program. This marks the eighth consecutive year the Grand Rapids-based retailer has reached that level.
Also, don’t just share the photo; share the meal this holiday season. Take a picture of your meal and for every public social media post with the hashtag #MeijerSimplyGive from now through November 28, Meijer will donate a meal to a family in need.
The Simply Give program runs in spring, fall and over the holidays. Since it started in November 2008, more than $50 million has gone to Midwest food pantries and programs.
“The Simply Give program is a way for Meijer customers to partner with us and support the food banks and pantries that provide food to our hungry neighbors in the communities we serve,” Meijer Spokeswoman Christina Fecher said.
