TrueNorth Community Services is pleased to introduce two new mentoring program staff members to the community: Lisa Brown, the new TrueMentors Program Director, and Hannah Covert, the Mentoring Support Specialist.
Brown comes to TrueNorth with a bachelor of science degree in recreation management with an emphasis in behavioral and addiction studies from Western Michigan University. She has extensive experience in recreation programming and volunteering. She enjoys working with children and helping them improve their quality of life and inspiring them to live life to their fullest potential. “I’m really looking forward to making a difference in this community and in the lives of the children involved with our programming,” she said.
Covert comes to TrueNorth with a bachelor of science degree in marketing and graphic design from Olivet Nazarene University. Covert says she “loves being involved in the lives of people in the community, but my passion is with youth.”
The TrueMentors program includes community based, one-on-one adult-to-child mentoring and site-based programming in Hesperia, as well as in Newaygo through their TrueBlue program in conjunction with the Newaygo Police Department and Newaygo Public Schools.
There are currently 11 children waiting to be matched with an adult mentor in the community-based program, and another six waiting for mentors in TrueBlue. Additionally, 13 children are awaiting intake, so the need for mentors is great.
Those interested in becoming a mentor to a local child, or anyone with questions about the programs are encouraged to contact Brown at TrueNorth at (231) 924-0641, ext. 109, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
