TrueNorth Community Services was one of two local non-profits to receive proceeds from Sable Homes' first two home sales in Newaygo's newly-revitalized River Hills neighborhood on Tuesday.

TrueNorth and the Newaygo County Area Promise Zone Authority each received $500 donations as part of Sables Homes' new community partnership done in collaboration with River Country Chamber of Commerce.

In a December 2017 ribbon-cutting ceremony, Sable Homes pledged to donate $250 each to TrueNorth and the Promise Zone from each home sold within River Hills through the end of June. Sable Homes also announced it would donate $2,000 toward the closing costs for each home purchased.

“We are extremely grateful for the generous donation from Sable Homes,” said Mark Kraus, TrueNorth Community Liaison and Development Director.

“This contribution will go a long way in helping the families we serve.”

Sable Homes General Manager Bryan Burnham said: “We hope our contributions to TrueNorth Community Services and the Newaygo County Promise Zone Authority will help the Newaygo community grow and prosper."

Promise Zone Authority Board member Mark Guzniczak said: “Our services would not be possible without the generous donations from community partners like Sable Homes. We appreciate Sable Homes’ charitable support and willingness to step up and revitalize the River Hills neighborhood. Their contributions will go a long way in providing services to families who otherwise might not have the opportunity to offer a post-secondary education for their children.”

The first phase of Newaygo’s River Hills neighborhood began more than 15 years ago. Until recently, only four homes were built within the 40-acre development. In 2017, Sable Homes President John Bitely recognized the need to revitalize the neighborhood as a way to give back to the community and purchased the property.

The Rockford-based developer has since built and sold two additional homes within the neighborhood, and plans to construct homes on the remaining 27 lots in phase one of River Hills and complete the proposed 19 homes in the second phase.
