Recently, Camp Newaygo added a new feature that allows people to experience the sensation of flying through the tree canopy; a 1,075 foot Zip Line! On Saturday, May 14, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM everyone is invited to a brand new event featuring the zip line – it’s Zips & Sips!

Two of the features that make the Camp Newaygo Canopy Tour zip line so unique are that it is open to the public, on select dates, and that it is very user-friendly. It’s also one of the highest and longest in the state, and easily the closest one for local residents to enjoy. The Camp Newaygo zip line is accessed via stairs, so no tree or ladder climbing is required, and “taking off” is as simple as walking down a short ramp until you’re zipping through the upper canopy of the beautiful woods of Camp Newaygo. The spectacular scenery and the rush of “flight” provide a thrilling experience for first-timers and pros alike.

Zips & Sips is going to be the first and best warm weather, outdoor block party of the season. Your $5 entry fee includes access to live music, and fun outdoor activities like Nine Square in the Air, Corn Hole, Ladder Golf, and Giant Jenga. Concessions and the zip line will be available at additional costs. Newaygo Brewing Co. will be on hand with some tasty local microbrews, Two Hot Tamales Food Truck will be on hand providing delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine, and Flexa Decibel, a popular West Michigan funk and blue-eyed soul band will be providing the live soundtrack for the fun. And of course, the zip line will be open!

The Camp Newaygo zip line is made up of three separate, but connected zips. The longest one, which at 400 feet is longer than a football field, is a Dual Zip which allows riders to race or “duel” against friends or family members.  Riders can choose the Dual Zip alone for only $12 each. The Loop Zip, which consists of the first two zips totaling 675 feet, and including the highest section, is only $15 per rider. For the Complete Canopy Tour, including both the Dual and the Loop, riders will only pay $22. Riders can even relive the adventure with a personal GoPro experience for $35. You may also reserve your spot with an “express pass” and after five paid visits, the sixth one is free! Call Camp Newaygo for details. All necessary equipment, including helmets and harnesses are provided, but closed-toed shoes are required and pants or longer shorts are recommended. Riders must be at least 43 inches tall and weigh at least 65 lbs. All riders must sign a waiver, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and parents or guardians must sign the waiver for children.

All ages are welcome but attendees must be 21 or older with ID for adult beverages. Questions should be directed to Dylan at Camp Newaygo at (231) 652-1184 or dkett@campnewaygo.org. Large groups are asked to call ahead. Camp Newaygo is located at 5333 Centerline Rd., Newaygo.
