Every year, TrueNorth’s Newaygo County Piano Teachers Association (NCPTA) puts on a concert celebrating the music of a particular composer as part of their Birthday Concert Series. This year the concert will feature music made famous by two incredibly influential and legendary America vocalists; Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday.

Both Sinatra and Holiday were born in 1915, meaning this year marks their hundredth birthdays, and both singers were famous for their unique and groundbreaking vocal phrasing and bringing jazz music to the masses. “This year’s concert is a little different in that it features music made famous by vocalists, not necessarily by composers,” said TrueNorth Cultural Programs Coordinator, Brenda Huckins-Bonter. Many local performers are scheduled to perform including; Olivia Anderson, Shaunna Baker, Sandra Bernard, Roger Bradshaw, Mick Hanna, Thea Hoekman, Jean Howarth,  Bernadine Johnson, April Keith, Michele Mines, Newaygo County Community Chorus, Swing Tooth, Jim Webb, Kirk Weller, West Michigan Flute Association, Diana Whittle, Chuck Witteveen, and Brenda Woods.

After the concert, dessert will be served and there will also be a silent auction of local artist’s work, including a painting created during the concert by local muralist , Eric LeMire. This event is the NCPTA’s major fundraiser for the year to help raise money for their yearly programming, including the First Friday Piano Showcases, which allows piano students of any level to perform on the TrueNorth Steinway in a recital setting

“A Sinatra Holiday” will be held on Sunday, October 25th beginning at 3:00 PM at the TrueNorth Service Center, located at 6308 S. Warner Ave. (M-82), just south of Fremont. Tickets are only $4 per person and students are free. Larger donations gratefully accepted. For more information, please contact Brenda Huckins-Bonter at or 652-1184.
