The community votes are in and TrueNorth has been selected as a charity partner for the 2015 Fifth Third River Bank Run. For 53 hours, people were asked to vote online for their choice of nonprofit charity partner out of 25 charities. The top five vote recipients were then selected as the 2015 charity partners.

“We are extremely excited at this opportunity to be a Fifth Third River Bank Run Charity Partner,” commented Mark Kraus, TrueNorth’s Development Director and Community Liaison. The 38th Annual Fifth Third River Bank Run will take place in downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, May 9, 2015, and features the largest 25K road race in the country.

Kraus added, “We’d like to thank those who took the time to vote for TrueNorth, with a special thank you to the Fremont Fifth Third Bank and their staff, especially Sue Purcell, who were amazing in helping us in getting the word out about the vote.”

“We were happy to help TrueNorth in the community vote,” said Purcell. “Fifth Third Bank focuses on opportunities to strengthen local communities and TrueNorth does this everyday through their work in assisting those in need. We next want to help get the word out that when registering participants can donate and raise funds for TrueNorth.”

Through the River Bank Run’s website at www.53riverbankrun.com, people can register for an event and also make a donation to the charity partners, including TrueNorth. More than 21,000 people are expected to participate in race day events including a 5K Run, 10K Run, 25K Handcycle race, 25K Wheelchair race, 25K race and a 5K Community Walk, including an event where you can walk with your pet.

“We hope as people register they will consider making a donation,” continued Kraus. “This is a great opportunity to give to TrueNorth and participants who donate $35 or more will receive a free technical shirt upgrade.”

TrueNorth will also soon be launching an online fundraising opportunity for those who would like to do more than a one–time donation. Runners will have the ability to create their own fundraising page. They can set their own goal and utilize email, social media and other online tools to encourage others to give. This feature will be announced and available in late November.

Those who have questions about the charity partnership and/or interested in fundraising for TrueNorth are encouraged to call Mark Kraus at (231) 924-0641, ext. 161 or mkraus@truenorthservices.org.

Taelor Schultz and Sue Purcell from Fifth Third Bank, along with Mark Kraus from TrueNorth, celebrate the agency’s selection as a charity partner for the 2015 Fifth Third Bank River Bank Run.
