Every year, TrueNorth’s Newaygo County Piano Teachers Association (NCPTA) puts on a concert celebrating the music of a particular composer as part of their Birthday Concert Series. This year will be a little different though as they celebrate the musical collaborations of some the most famous and beloved songwriting pairs in history.

“There just weren’t any famous composers with milestone birthdays this year, so the NCPTA came up with this great idea,” said TrueNorth Cultural Programs Coordinator, Brenda Huckins-Bonter. The concert will instead feature the music of George & Ira Gershwin, Rogers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Lowe, Rogers & Hart, Lennon & McCartney, and others. Many local performers are scheduled to perform including; Shaunna Baker, The Courtright Dance Studio, Emily Devine, Thea Hoekman, Jean Howarth, Bernadine Johnson, April Keith, Kara & Holly Kortge, Celia & Tricia Luchies, The Newaygo County Brass, The Newaygo County Community Chorus, David Oosting, “Two Flutes & a Piano”, and many others.

In addition to the concert, Eric LeMire, a muralist from Newaygo will be creating a painting during the event that will be auctioned at the end of the concert. This event is the NCPTA’s major fundraiser for the year to help raise money for their yearly programming, including the First Friday Piano Showcases, which allows piano students of any level to perform on the TrueNorth Steinway in a recital setting. Light refreshments will also be served.

“The Power of a Pair” will be held on Sunday, November 2nd beginning at 3:00 PM at the TrueNorth Service Center, located at 6308 S. Warner Ave. (M-82), just south of Fremont. Tickets are only $3 per person and students are free. For more information, please contact Brenda Huckins-Bonter at bbonter@campnewaygo.org or 652-1184.
