Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Services for West Michigan (VITA West Michigan) volunteers provide free tax preparation assistance services to low- to moderate-income individuals and families with household annual incomes below $60,000. 

For the 2020 tax season from February 3 through April 15, TrueNorth Community Services will be a host site for VITA West Michigan at the TrueNorth Service Center, 6308 S. Warner Avenue (M-82) in Fremont. Appointments will be on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (with the last appointment at 6 p.m.) and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with the last appointment at 4 p.m.).

Over the past three years, VITA West Michigan helped prepare more than 8,000 free income tax returns for eligible low- to moderate-income individuals and families thanks to more than 40 volunteers, returning over $10 million to the community in West Michigan.

VITA West Michigan has been a TrueNorth partnership with Goodwill Industries of West Michigan, Inc., since 2006. The program is funded by grants from Fremont Area Community Foundation, the Community Foundation for Muskegon CountyUnited Way of the Lakeshore and The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan.

The program serves residents of Newaygo, Muskegon, Oceana and Ottawa counties with volunteers preparing returns at seven convenient tax sites.
