The Tools for School Expo is a back-to-school event designed to provide students from qualifying low-income families to enter school in the fall on a level playing field with essential school supplies.
The 16th annual Tools For School Expo was August 13, at the TrueNorth Service Center in Fremont. The three-hour community Expo served 735 Newaygo County students, with more than 1,000 expected to receive school supply-filled backpacks by this fall through the program.
The program is for kindergarten through 12th grade students living in Newaygo County or attending a Newaygo County school for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The students received new backpacks filled with essential school supplies through Tools for School. At the Expo, students also got dental exams, vision screenings, and haircuts as well as access to programs and services from community organizations.
The application deadline for Tools for School's 2019 program has passed. Please check here for details for 2020, when applications will be available through Newaygo County schools; at locations across Newaygo County, including local libraries, government and agency offices, and TrueNorth; and online.
