Building Vibrant Communities

We encourage citizen involvement through volunteer recruitment and engagement, coordination/collaboration of community-focused activities, introduction of arts and culture to rural audiences, and promotion of citizen advocacy and involvement which strengthen our communities.

Volunteers
are the lifeblood of TrueNorth. As the Volunteer Resource Center of Newaygo County, we offer a varied list of volunteer opportunities, while partnering to provide days of service such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service each February.

We offer a variety of Community-Based Activities and Events such as our Warm Hearts Blanket Bees, Mud Bowl Mania, and our Camp Community Dinner Series.

Citizen Advocacy and Involvement is an important asset to healthy communities and we support these with our Lights On Afterschool events and partnership with Diversity to Unity.

Arts and Cultural
opportunities in rural communities are limited. We are proud to offer these types of opportunities since the 1950’s, including our Birthday Concert Series, First Friday Piano Showcase and Madrigal Dinners.

Social Entrepreneurship
is a term not often heard but we are on the forefront for rural nonprofits. As a member of the Lakeshore Literacy Council, and as the originator of the 11 county Northwest Michigan Rural Service Partnership, we are innovators in bringing resources to our communities that otherwise wouldn’t be available.
