CROTON, Michigan — The 13th annual Dam to Dam Ice Fishing Tournament fundraiser is Saturday, February 16, at Croton-Hardy Dam, with TrueNorth Community Services’ TrueMentors mentoring program the beneficiary.
The tournament is from sunrise to 3:30 p.m., with a weigh-in at Croton Township Campground, 7683 South Croton Hardy Drive. Contestants must be in line by 3:30 p.m., with the weigh-in and raffle at 4 p.m. at the campground.
Registration for the ice fishing tournament costs $5; and children who register with an adult being free. You can register in advance at Croton Bay Trading Post, Driftwood Bar & Grill and Hilltop General Stores, or the morning of the event at Croton Township Campground.
Because the tournament is during the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ 2019 Winter Free Fishing Weekend (February 16 and 17), all state fishing license fees are waived for two days.
Accompanying the ice fishing will be an ice golf tourney, food vendors, music and raffles. The ice golf tourney is at 10 a.m. February 16; registration costs $5.
Leinenkugel’s is a sponsor of both the Dam to Dam Ice Fishing Tournament and the ice golf tourney.
Other related activities include a fish fry at 5 p.m. Friday, February 15, at Croton American Legion Post 381, 6812 South Croton Hardy Drive, with music from Outlaw Express; and an event the evening of Friday, February 15, at Driftwood Bar & Grill, 7456 South Croton Hardy Drive, with music from DC True.
TrueMentors' volunteers are matched with Newaygo County youth between the ages of 5 to 14 years old in a one-to-one mentoring relationship for a minimum one-year commitment, said Chelsea Clark, Mentoring Outreach Advocate at TrueNorth.
